Having been commissioned by the band to make a music video for them, I feel that it has been a great experience and also a rewarding one. I have learnt a number of things. Having watched music videos in the past, I always thought that making a music video was extremely challenging and also time consuming.
I felt the commuincation issues by the band and myself were pretty good. I informed them of all the ideas I wanted to include the video and they gave me the creative freedom to do so. I am pleased with the fact that they have a video that they enjoy and that I am also proud of this video.
The one major disadvantage I suffered with the commission was sometimes just a lack of preparation for the shoot. I never took into consideration the paperwork that I would need in order to film the narrative, even though the final video worked out well.
Having now completed this music video, other unsigned bands have seen it and liked it and have approached me in order to make a music video for their band. If I was to make a music video for them, I would make sure that I would keep in full contact with the band whilst planning what would happen on screen and to also sort out all the necessary paperwork to make sure that the filming would go to plan.

Music Video Voiceover
I decided to create a script for a voiceover with the music video. Tim also appeared on the voiceover track. The script is as follows:
Our genre of music is indie rock. The way we presented the band was to have them rehearsing in a small room. This makes the video look more authentic. There are no big budget set pieces. There are just effects to make it look confusing. I think this gives the video an edge as you aren't entirely sure what is going on. This makes the video more exciting to watch. The band are performing quite close together in the video.
We both created our own digipacks. My cover is hand-drawn which gives it a raw feel to it. It is coloured in. I decided to make it like this as not many indie album covers feature the actual band on it.

Audience Research
I looked at the number of views that the music video had recieved and it was 108 by 14th May 2
010. As you can see, the majority of my views came from when the video was uploaded to facebook for people to view. A few of the views also came from myspace where other bands came across the music video. All of the views have come from the United Kingdom, which is what I was aiming for.

Music Video FinalCut
This is the finalcut to the music video.
The main difference between this video and the roughcut is that my production company logo has been added to the video and that the band's name and the name of the song have also been added to the video.

Feedback From The Band
Having showed the roughcut of the music video to the band, they were very pleased with the outcome of the video. They liked the effects and believed they fit in well with the music. The video was well cut and is enjoyable to watch. They could not wait to see the finished video...

Feedback From The Junction
The rough cut was shown at the Junction and the feedback I was given is as follows:
When it was projected onto the screen, the video was much darker than it looked whilst editing. They liked how the screen was dark as you couldn't see the band much. This made the band mysterious which they liked. I feel the video worked better when you could actually see the band.
They liked the effects, especially the bad TV one, which they said i should use more of as it gave it a totally different feel to if it had just been them in a room. It caused a bit of confusion and made it better.
They also liked the fact that it was done in a small room, and made it feel like you were just in a practise room in a warehouse/industrial area, which is where the video was filmed.
My Response
This is generally pretty good feedback. The only disappointing aspect of the feedback i recieved is that they never actually gave me anything to improve upon for the finalcut.
